Data Retention

This document explains how long Babelize retains different types of data and how you can manage retention settings.

Retention Summary

Translation Data

Source Content

Source content (files you upload) is retained:

After retention period:

• Files are permanently deleted
• Cannot be recovered
• Must re-upload to re-translate

Translation Results

Translated output is retained:

In-Memory Processing

During translation:

• Content exists in memory only
• Not written to disk
• Cleared after processing completes
• Typically under 60 seconds

Revision History

Revisions track changes over time:

After retention:

• Revision metadata may be retained
• Actual content is deleted

Glossary Data

Glossary entries are retained indefinitely while:

• Project exists
• Account is active

Deleted when:

• Term is explicitly deleted
• Project is deleted
• Account is deleted

Account Data

Personal account data retained while account is active:

Logs and Analytics

Audit Logs

See Audit Logs for retention by plan.

Usage Analytics

Aggregate usage data:

• Retained for billing purposes
• Anonymized after 2 years
• Used for service improvement

Error Logs

Internal error logs:

• Retained for 30 days
• May contain request metadata
• Used for debugging only

Managing Retention

Immediate Deletion

Delete data before retention period expires:

Projects:

1. Go to Project Settings → Danger Zone
2. Click Delete Project
3. Confirm deletion

Files:

1. Open project
2. Select file(s)
3. Click Delete
4. Confirm deletion

Export Before Deletion

Download before retention expires:

Backup and Recovery

Our Backups

• Automatic daily backups
• 30-day backup retention
• Geographic redundancy
• Encrypted at rest

Your Responsibility

We recommend:

• Regular exports of important translations
• Version control integration
• External backup strategy

Deletion Process

When data is deleted:

1. Immediate: Removed from active systems
2. 24 hours: Removed from caches
3. 30 days: Removed from backups
4. Permanent: Cryptographic deletion
